Carburizing is a the thermochemical processes. During this process, the parts is enriched with carbon to improve the mechanical properties. The hardening of parts usually consists of three steps.

1.- In the first step, parts are exposed to a carbon rich atmosphere. This increases the carbon percentage at the surface of the part. The carbon profile and penetration depth depend on the time on temperature, the amount of carbon supplied, the temperature and the type of steel used.

2.- In the second phase, deterrence (hardening) takes place. This can be done directly from the cementing temperature, or after an intermediate cooling or new heating to a new material-specific curing temperature.

3.- The third step is annealing and reduce the highest stresses in the structure and crack sensitivity.
